Seeking An Airline To Stockholm? Which Of The 47?

Searching for an airline to Stockholm? You have plenty of choice. Read more about it below. You’ll also find information about other ways to travel to Sweden.

Obviously taking the plane to Stockholm is the fastest and most convenient way of getting to Sweden for most foreigners.

The number of airlines serving the Scandinavian peninsula changes regularly, as do their destinations. March 2007 no less than 47 airlines reach 106 direct scheduled destinations in 37 countries from Arlanda, Sweden’s biggest international airport.

These airlines provide direct flights from the US to Sweden: Continental Airlines (New York), SAS (Chicago, New York), Malaysia Airlines (New York) and US Airways (Philadelphia).

On the way to Arlanda, Swedens main airport SAS, British Airways and Sterling fly to several airports in the United Kingdom.

SAS flies from and to most countries in Western Europe.

It’s an obvious choice, offering good service, reasonable prices and airplanes with modern facilities. I’ve used them several times and have no complaints.

Need another airline to Stockholm? Air France, Lufthansa, Finnair, KLM, Alitalia, Iberia, to name a few. Low cost airlines flying to Arlanda are Fly Nordic, Germanwings, Sterling and others. The cheapest airfares of each airline to Stockholm are usually found online.

Arlanda is about 40 kilometers north from Stockholm. The best way to reach the capital from there is taking the high speed train Arlanda Express.

Other Airports

It’s not Stockholm’s only airport. An alternative is the smaller and older airfield of Bromma, just a short bus ride away from the city centre. However, only a few international flights go there. The main foreign carrier here is Brussels Airlines, with flights to Belgium.

Skavsta airport near the town of Nyköping, 100 kilometres south from Stockholm, is used by low cost companies like Ryanair.

If you’re searching for an affordable airline to Stockholm, this is the one… although their tickets are not as cheap as they are advertised. For example, Ryanair charges you extra for luggage and even for using your credit card when paying.

When visiting Scandinavia please check if you don’t need a visa to travel to Sweden.

Fear of flying?

Bus

Click here for details on the Stockholm Passion GuideA cheap way to get there is by bus. There are daily coaches to Stockholm, departing from major European cities. The main company in this field is Eurolines, a brand name used by 32 independent coach companies operating together.

Be aware that the prices of low fare airlines are nowadays not much higher and sometimes lower than those of bus tickets.

Train

A great option to see Stockholm and large parts of Scandinavia is purchasing a Scanrail pass, a ticket that allows foreigners to travel by train through the Nordic countries for several weeks.

US travelers that want to see other European countries outside Scandinavia, may consider a Eurail pass

However, if you don’t suffer from fear of flying and are not planning to explore Scandinavia or Europe by train, it is best to search for an airline to Stockholm.
