Car Hire At Stockholm Airport Where Are The Desks?
Car hire at Stockholm airport is not a problem: Avis; Europcar and Hertz are all present. But when arriving at Arlanda you may wonder where their desks are. In the arrival hall theres no sign at all where to find the car rental offices. The first time we rented a vehicle we made my reservation online. When we arrived at
Arlanda
though, it seemed there was no Hertz office. I walked around several minutes searching for a signpost. But there was nothing. Luckily a kind lady at the general information desk told me where to go. Avis, Europcar and Hertz share an office-building a few kilometers outside the terminal. A free bus with line number 19 takes you there the bus stop is just outside the departure hall of terminal 5 (not the arrival hall!). The cars are parked right outside the office. The staff speaks English some with an almost too-good-to-be-true American accent and the lady who helped us even gave us a free upgrade so we left with a bigger car than we had booked. US citizens may get a little shocked when hearing the price. However, in Europe prices for rental cars are usually higher than in North America, and Sweden is no exception. A child seat is compulsory in Sweden if you travel with kids up to 12 years. The staff of your car rental company is not allowed to install the seat I assume for legal reasons. You have to do it yourself. This is not a snap, as we experienced. The child seat was different from the one we had at home and the manual was only in Swedish and Finnish. The accompanying pictures were far from clear. Luckily one of the ladies from Hertz was so kind to translate the text for us and gave me the right instructions while standing beside the car, so in the end our little daughter could sit safely. Thanks to this service, our experience with car hire at Stockholm airport was a satisfying one and we enjoyed driving in Sweden very much.
