The name of the park means green wood. It was also the name of small café at the island of Djurgården, until Jakob Schultheis adopted it for the fairground he opened there in 1883.
The number of attractions grew and so did the number of visitors. Now the dozens of attractions in the Stockholm amusement park are attended by 10,000 people a day during the summer season.
The video below was taken during a rollercoaster ride in the park at sundown. Press the Play button in the player controls at the bottom left to watch the video.
Other attractions?
A house of ghosts, a giant octopus, musical carousels and much more, all providing good fun for family and children.
Most spectacular without a doubt is the Fritt Fall Tilt, also called Power Tower. The gondola with your seat – without foot supports – is taken up to a height of 80 meters. You stay there a while, enjoy the view and then ...
You fall unhindered towards the ground with a speed of 110 km/h.
Now that’s amusement!
Tivoli Gröna Lund has several restaurants - but don't eat before you climb the Power Tower! - and a theatre.
The main concert stage hosts stars from all over the world.
A few names that performed here? Bob Marley, Ella Fitzgerald, Paul McCartney ... One of the most legendary concerts here was given by the great Jimi Hendrix in 1967.
The amusement park opens in the second half of April and closes mid September.
In June and July it’s open every day, other months almost daily. There are many concerts in the park then as well. Buying tickets in advance is recommended.
