Plan Your Stockholm City Break - Here Are The Tools That Save Money

If you plan your own Stockholm city break, you can save a lot of money… if you know where to book. No worries, on this page I collected all the tools you need for an affordable trip to Sweden’s magnificent capital!

1. Decide the purpose of your trip

Marc de Jong, your Stockholm Sweden guide Are you only visiting Stockholm or are you interested in touring (parts of) Sweden or even Scandinavia?

If you plan to visit other parts of Sweden during your vacation, I recommend ordering a FREE travel brochure here. There’s plenty of choice, ranging from active holidays in summer and winter, to railway and city trips.

Continue if you only plan a Stockholm city break.

2. Pre flight preparation

Visa – Citizens of the USA, Canada, Australia, most European countries and a few other states don’t need a tourist visa for Sweden. Read more if you have a different nationality.

Insurance – I strongly recommend getting a travel insurance for your vacation. Sweden is safe for tourists but in case something unpleasant happens, you don’t want to be in a position when you are not insured. Here you can get a quote from several insurance companies at once – this way you won’t pay too much and still feel safe.

3. Find the best priced plane ticket

The easiest thing you can do is visit one of many air ticket booking sites. There are hundreds of air ticket booking sites, and most tap from the same resources – therefore price differences between these sites are often small or non-existent.

You may ask yourself why not fly for free? Yes, why not?

Why Not Fly For Free is also the title of a highly successful ebook in which a former travel agent reveals how you can get airline tickets for very low prices – or even free. You can try the ebook Why Not Fly For Free for seven days and pay only if you’re happy with it.

4. Find the best priced hotel room

The best and most comprehensive tool to find the best priced hotel rooms in the Swedish capital, is the Hotels Combined search engine. Just enter the dates you want to check in and out, and Hotels Combined will get back to you with the results of 27 booking sites. You will find the best deals - guaranteed.

You can also find reviews and a lot more information (photos, maps) on Hotels Combined.

Alternately read my personal reviews of Stockholm hotels.

Don’t have the money for a hotel? The city has many hostels too – search hostel rates and availability here.

5. Book one or more sightseeing tours

There are many options: bus tours, boat tours, city walks, even a ghost walk! Here's a complete overview. It’s recommended to book ahead: popular tours sell out well in advance! No Stockholm city break is complete without a sightseeing tour.

6. Order the Stockholm Card

Free admission to 75 museums and attractions, free public transport and boat trips, bonus discounts…. you get it all if you order the Stockholm Card. Not recommended if you only plan to walk and won’t visit more than a museum a day, but a must-have for all others.

7. Visit this web site often

This site prepares you for your Stockholm city break like no other, for the simple reason that I’m pretty much a Stockholm city break addict… Feel free to buy me a coffee to thank me for my help. I even give you an instantly downloadable present (about Sweden!) in return!

Enjoy your trip!
