Stockholm Marathon With Over 17 000 Runners
The Stockholm Marathon is one of the city’s main yearly events. The 2007 edition, held on Saturday 9th of June, is again expecting to attract a record number of runners. In 2006 no less than 17.249 Runners runners from 57 nations took part. The event is usually held during the first half of June. If you want to visit the Swedish capital then, you should know that it's extremely difficult to
find an affordable hotel room
available, as many are occupied by runners and fans. The international field of runners always starts from Lidingövägen outside the Olympic Stadium at 2 pm. The course is two laps – which are not identical - through the central parts of Stockholm. The marathon finishes in the 1912 Olympic Stadium. Most runners come from Sweden, followed by Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Denmark, Norway, France, USA, Switzerland and Italy. When the first edition was held in 1979, only 2 145 runners from 9 countries entered. This year’s start list includes 59 runners who have finished all 26 previous editions. Over 2 600 volunteers work this day to ensure everything goes smoothly. You want to run down the streets of the Swedish capital? Entry for the 2007 race (check out the Stockholm Marathon web site) has already opened.
