Stockholm Metro – An Underground Tourist Attraction

The Stockholm metro is not just an excellent means of transport. It’s also a tourist attraction and a must-see for art lovers.

Click the play button of the video to see why!

Platforms and tubes of the tunnelbana or t-bana (Swedish name for metro, underground or subway) are decorated by artists, making this one of “the longest art exhibition in the world”.

You will find paintings, sculptures, mosaics, installations and engravings. Especially the blue line is quite spectacular. The fact that stations at this line were built in rock adds to the experience.

Who would ever think the Romans got as far north as Sweden?

Well, you could easily think so if you visit Kungsträdgården station which looks like a Roman cave.

But many other stations are attractive too. In total around 140 artists helped to create a special atmosphere that makes the tunnelbana stand out from the rest. But you don’t have to be an art lover to enjoy it. It’s impressive all the way.

It rains outside? You’ve got tired feet?

Take the blue line, get out for a quick stop at each station and please your eyes!
