Stockholm Museum Top-10 (part two)

Art work of Picasso outside Moderna Museet, Stockholm

Every Stockholm museum is different. Not only because of its topic, but also the atmosphere, the building, the way everything is displayed. So let's continue with our Top-10 that started here.

Moderna Museet (Modern Museum)
Reopened after a year-long renovation, Moderna Museet is a Stockholm museum of international fame. It has one of the best collections of 20th Century art in Europe, with works from artists like Jackson Pollock, Paul Klee and Henri Matisse. There are also temporary exhibitions. The colorful sculptures that greet visitors and trespassers outside are almost just as famous as the works of art inside.
Location: Skeppsholmen.

Aquaria Water Museum
Here you can walk in a reconstructed rainforest and experience a tropical rainshower (don’t worry – there is a roof!), look a living shark in the eye (again, don’t worry – there’s glass between the two of you!) and see many other plants and animal species that have a close relationship with water. And they all live. Not big, but interesting and pleasant, and great for kids too.
Location: Falkenbergsgatan 2, Djurgården.

Kungliga Slottet (Royal Palace)
This is not only a palace, but houses also a popular Stockholm museum. Well, four in fact! Read more about Kungliga Slottet.

Historiska Museet (National Antiquity)
Located a bit out of the centre in Östermalm, this has one of the best collections of Viking weapons and objects in the world. There’s an interesting prehistory section on the ground floor, including a skeleton of a woman that lived 5,000 years B.C. The Gold Room in the basement displays jewelry from the Bronze Age to the Middle-Ages.
Location: Narvavägen 13-17.

Junibacken
Family attraction built around the world of author Astrid Lindgren, creator of such marvelous personalities as Pippi Longstocking and Karlsson on the roof. You will meet them and other characters on a train journey that makes storybooks come to life. Great for kids - but ... only if they are familiar with Lindgren's books. Guided tours in Swedish, English, German, Russian, Dutch and Finnish.
Location: Galärvarvsvägen, Djurgården.

Not Enough Yet?

You want another Stockholm museum? Two? Three? Well, here are other museums you might like:
