Stockholm Parks – The Green Lungs Of A Green Capital

The Stockholm parks are the green lungs of an already very green city. Not only locals like to hang out there and spend there free time, also tourists will love places like Hagaparken, Rålambshovsparken or Vita Berget.

There are so many Stockholm parks that you can’t visit them all during your stay. In fact, not even the Stockholmers will have seen every green spot in their city – there are just so many places to relax in the Swedish capital.

To make it easier for you, I selected some of the most popular Stockholm parks.

Hagaparken
Royal recreation ground in an English style. There’s a Chinese pagoda and a Royal burial place. The current King Carl XVI Gustav spent his childhood in Haga Slott (palace). Also worth a visit: the butterfly and bird house, where thousands of exotic butterflies and birds fly around freely.

People in Kungstradgarden, Stockholm. Rålambshovsparken
Laid out in 1935 when the nearby Västerbron bridge was built, the lawns of Rålambshovsparken are very popular among sunbathers in summer. Great view over Riddarfjärden (as this part of lake Mälaren is called) and the city centre. Includes an open-air theatre and a playground.

Kungsträdgården
Probably the most popular of all Stockholm parks, located right in the heart of the city and one of the places tourist always want to see.

Tessinparken
Named after the famous family of architects Tessin, this is one of Östermalms many green lungs. Beautiful lay out with playground, lawns and ponds.

Vanadislunden
Very pleasant, hilly park along the north end of Sveavägen. There’s a small chappell at the south side and a swimming pool at the west. One of the most charming of all Stockholm parks.

Vasaparken
Small leafy park from the beginning of the 20th Century, located at the north side of Sabbatsbergs hospital in Vasastan.

Vita Berget
This park called white mountain is one of Södermalms most attractive areas. Not only for the park itself, but also for the Sofia Kyrka (church) at Vita Berget’s north side. Don’t forget to see the nearby wooden workman’s houses, dating back from the 18th Century. Very picturesque.

Ekoparken
This is the world’s first national city park, stretching out from the palace of Ulriksdal in the north to the islands of Fjäderholmarna in the south. Click here to read more Ekoparken – the biggest of all Stockholm parks.
