Stockholm shopping is different, like anything else in this city. Stores, boutiques and markets in the capital of Sweden offer a unique mix of Swedish tradition and trendy designs with a cosmopolitan feel. If you love searching for things no one else has, you are likely to spend a lot of time in the shops here.
The video above (click the Play button to watch it) merely scratches the surface of shopping opportunities in the Swedish capital, but makes some important points: most shops are in walking distance of each other, and there’s a shop for anyone – no matter your interest.
Design lovers now rave about SoFo, an area in Södermalm comprised of the streets south of Folkungagatan and east of Götgatan.
Whatever you’re looking for - design, art, hip fashion, used records – you’ll find it here, as long as it’s special and/or trendy. Warning: be prepared for impressive price tags.
SoFo is a quite contrast to Gamla Stan, the old town with its souvenir and handicraft shops.
Maybe not as hip as SoFo but still special and unusual are the goods sold in many boutiques and shops in the Östermalm area. Stureplan and Biblioteksgatan have some of the city’s most exclusive fashion boutiques.
Close-by on Birger Jarlsgatan is the store (and gallery) of Orrefors Kosta Boda, specialist in glass design. Another tip if you don’t want to come home with a sports bag shouting SWEDEN.
If you like a roof over your head and a wide choice of trendy and not so trendy stores and restaurants, I can recommend Gallerian on Hamsngatan, opposite of the NK department store. Apparently this is the biggest Stockholm shopping mall and since its renovation also one of the finest.
If you’re a non-EU citizen you can shop tax-free. You can get the money back at the airport when you leave, so save your receipts.

NK
