Things To Do In Stockholm – The Main Events Of 2007

There are numerous things to do in Stockholm. In fact, there's no day without events. Concerts, exhibitions, performances ..... you won’t get bored.

Here's what to do and where to go in 2007.

Many people come to Sweden's biggest city for sightseeing and tourist attractions or for the vibrant nightlife in the Swedish capital.

But there is much more than that.

All the year round there are concerts of famous artists in Globen and other venues.

Famous names expected in 2007 are Bob Dylan, Lionel Richie, Liza Minelli, Roger Waters, Beyoncé, Linkin Park, Justin Timberlake, The Who and many others. Even the original ABBA orchestra will perform in Globen on April 28. Visit the Globen site for upcoming events.

More things to do in Stockholm:

  • March 21: World cross-country skiing cup in sprint, around the Royal Palace, Gamla Stan.
  • March 21: World Poetry Day, Kägelbanan/Södra Teatern. This year's theme is "Technique & Tradition".
  • March 31: Apassionata: Hommage, spectacular horse show, Globen.
  • April 30: Walpurgis Night, outdoor museum Skansen. Spring festival with fireworks and choir singing. Read more here

During summer there are many things to do in Stockholm as well. These events are attractive for tourists:

  • June 1-6: A Taste Of Stockholm. The restaurants of the Swedish capital invite you to try food from different cultures.
  • June 6: Swedish National Day, celebration in Skansen with music and royalty.
  • June 9: Stockholm Marathon. One of the biggest yearly sports events in Scandinavia. Read more here.

  • June 23: Midsummer Celebrations, several locations. Many go to Skansen for singing, dancing and games.
  • July 27-30: Tall Ships Races. The world's biggest yearly event for large sailing vessels.
  • Interesting events in fall and winter include:

    • September 28-30: Lidingö Cross-Country Run, the world's biggest cross-country event.
    • November 15-25: Stockholm Film Festival, in movie theatres all over town.
    • December 10: Nobel Prize Day, Konserthuset. King Carl XVI Gustaf presents the Nobel Prizes in economics, chemistry, physics, medicine and literature. You're smart if you're invited.

    In Stockholm International Fairs dozens of fairs, exhibitions and conferences are held every year. Highlights for 2007 include:

    • Wilderness & Adventure Fair (March 16-18)
    • Antiques Fair (March 22-25)
    • Nordic Gardens (March 29-April 1)
    • Rookies & Players (fashion designers, August 16-19)
    • Formex 2007 (design gifts and interior accessoires, August 30-September 2)
    • Scandinavian Boat Show (November 7-11)
    • Food & Beverage Show (November 9-11)
    • Hund (Scandinavia's largest dog show, December 15-16)

    The fair buildings are located in the southern suburb of Älvsjö. You can easily get there by commuter train.

    And these are only some of the big events. But there are many more things to do in Stockholm. The free tourist and events magazine What’s On Stockholm, available at tourist offices and hotel desks, tells you all the latest. Hard to miss. Get it when you’re there!
